What is Integrative Health Coaching?

Welcome to Surprisingly Brave, LLC!  We are an Integrative Health Coaching group working alongside folks toward whole wellness, health and balance and honored to be doing so. This page should answer your questions and if this is a good fit, connect and start living the life you imagine.

Natural trauma, disease, hurricanes, freak accidents, layoffs, so much is out of our control.  Add in our own manmade challenges of abuse, adultery, painful relationships and the combined fallout of anger, addiction, depression and the normal chaos and challenges of life.  Wow!  So much to get in the way of a whole, physically and emotionally healthy and balanced life.

Yet, we are indeed Surprisingly Brave and have the inner resources to live the very life imagined but sometimes our brave is tucked in the cozy nest saying you go ahead, I will wait right here!



Integrative Health Coaching helps you name the issues that are getting in your way and find your brave for change.  Sometimes these conversations are thrust upon us with a diagnosis or trauma out of our control.  Sometimes it is that small voice saying your life is out of balance and something needs to shift. Whatever the cause, there is a need for change.

Change is hard even when it is the right thing to do and sometimes we just need a little help.  That is where an Integrative Health Coach comes in.

Developed by Duke Integrative Medicine, an Integrative Health Coach (IHC) is trained in behavior change and becomes a listening partner on your journey exploring and discovering your vision of a vibrant life and helping you make changes that are sustainable in the context of your crazy life.

This Wheel of Health, designed by Duke University’s Integrative Medicine,  shows how interconnected life is…work/life balance, nutrition and exercise, relationships and communication, personal and professional development and spirituality.



  • Have you received a health diagnosis that requires changes in diet or exercise or would you like to prevent future health concerns with changes now and need help to create sustainable change?
    • Coaching can help bridge the gap between medical recommendations and any roadblocks to making changes and placing them in your already complex life.

  • Integrative Health Coaches work one-on-one with an individual either in person, by phone, Skype or FaceTime.  Small group work is done in person.
  • Coaches take time to listen to your challenges and ask powerful questions to help uncover road blocks and discover the motivation within you to make changes.
  • Coaching helps facilitate behavior change in a supportive partnership with accountability between you and your coach.
  • Coaches can help you identify obstacles to change and create strategies for forward movement.
